With the continued growth of the Northern Indiana I-65 corridor, business services and retail merchants have risen sharply. To meet the increasing demand for local marketing services, Bluecoast Marketing will open an office location at 8684 Connecticut St. in summer 2022.
In Northwest Indiana, Merrillville is a retail trade center. Between Taft Street and Colorado Street, the US 30 corridor is densely packed with big-box businesses, hotels, restaurants, and car dealerships.
In 2005, Ameriplex at the Crossroads, a technology and industrial park, opened on Broadway between 93rd and 101st Avenues. The Purdue Research Foundation operates a business incubator and technology center in the development, which is classified as an Indiana Certified Technology Park.
Merrillville does not have a strong presence in heavy industry, such as steelmaking and petroleum refining, which typifies the economy of northern Lake County. Fortune 500 energy provider NiSource, hospitality management firm White Lodging, and Centier Bank, Indiana’s biggest privately owned independent bank, are all headquartered in the town.
